What is a Comprehensive Plan?

A Comprehensive Plan is a community-developed long-range vision for what future development looks like and provides direction for future decisions related to land use, growth, environmental protection, open space, recreational trails, visual impacts, housing, economic development, and other topics pertinent to the viability of Summit County. The Blueprint Summit process will update the 2009 Summit County Comprehensive Plan to be applicable to today’s community and future generations. This process is committed to engaging as many people as possible that live and work in Summit County, so thank you for being involved!

What is the process?

The Comprehensive Plan process started in August 2023 and is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2024. The process is split into 5 Phases and timing of these phases is outlined in the graphic below:

1. Conversations with Everyone (Community Context)

2. Establishing a Direction (Vision and Values)

3. Prioritizing What Matters (Priorities and Land Use)

4. Building the Plan Together (Draft Plan)

5. Making it All Happen (Finalizing the Plan)

The Community Advisory Committee is a group of engaged individuals from across Summit County made up of residents, business owners, community leaders, and more who meet regularly throughout the process to discuss, collaborate and provide guidance on the Comprehensive Plan's progress. You may hear from these members out in the community gathering feedback from you!

The Community Engagement Event Series are in person events throughout the process that will be hosted throughout Summit County in order to gather input on ideas for the Comprehensive Plan. These events will be described in more detail on this website, on the County's social media platforms and on summitcountyco.gov. Check out the "Get Involved" page at the top of your screen to learn more.
